Chapter 10: Stopping the Cycle of Burnout
I was in the classroom for 10 years teaching high school science. I was experienced, educated, emotionally invested in my students’ success, and even made it through teaching virtually in 2020. And yet somehow teaching kept getting harder, near impossible. I always felt like I wasn't doing enough and I was failing to give my students the education they desperately needed and deserved. Until I slowly realized I was doing enough, more than enough, too much in fact. I was being exploited. I was expected to make miracles happen in the classroom with rapidly disappearing time, support and resources. I decided enough was enough and to take my life and my career back into my own hands. This book is for all the exploited educators that deserve so much better.
